My name is Riley Miret. I am a first-generation American born and raised in South Florida and am currently a sophomore at Florida International University pursuing a B.A. in Economics and B.S. in Mathematical Sciences, with an expected graduation in May 2029.

While at Florida International University, I founded Capital Learning, a tutoring business that gave me firsthand experience operating a business. It made me more interested in how companies grow, allocate resources, and create value.

At FIU, studying economics gave me a broader lens for understanding markets. Researching monetary policy taught me to think about how inflation, employment, growth, and interest rates shape the economic environment in which businesses operate.

My experience in private equity and FIU’s student-managed fund gave me the opportunity to evaluate businesses from the bottom up. Building financial models, researching industries, and developing investment theses deepened my interest in fundamental company analysis.

I’m especially interested in combining bottom-up company analysis with a broader understanding of the economic environment.
Why Public Markets
The Intellectual Challenge
What draws me to public markets is the intellectual rigor of synthesizing company fundamentals, industry dynamics, the macroeconomic environment, and everyday observations into an investment thesis. I’m drawn to the challenge of taking information available to everyone and developing a differentiated perspective through deeper analysis and critical thinking. There is also a competitive element I find compelling: markets continually test your ideas, and ultimately the quality of your judgment shows in the outcome. With such a storied history behind public-market investing, it is the kind of work I can see myself doing for the next 40 years and hope to eventually leave my own mark on.
Personal Experience
I started investing at 13, long before I knew I wanted to pursue finance professionally. Over time, I’ve developed my own approach centered on dividend growth, durable cash flow generation, and conservative options strategies, giving me a place to continually test and refine how I think about businesses and markets.
